Yesterday I found out that I did not receive any of the central fellowships that UCSB offers its graduate students. As you might imagine, I am a bit frustrated by this. Of course, on the surface level, it makes me insecure about my proficiency as a future academic. If I can’t even get my own school to give me some money, then how am I going to get the Ford Foundation or the National Science Foundation to give me any. But no one else feels sorry for me, so neither should you or I.
